THRILLER JAPAN SUPER AUDIO
BOXSET CD
EPIC/SONY ESGA503
This particular version in Superaudio cd released in Japan, probably is
not the most relevant "Thriller" item in the Showroom, but deserves this
honour because of its rarity (it's really hard to find, especially in
mint conditions with its "superaudio" red sticker on front) and because,
before the 2001 remastered edition of "Thriller", before the SHMCDs
produced in 2009, and before the actual BLUSPEC CDS, the Superaudio cd
was the 90's best standard of quality for a musical format, with a
special "DSD mastering" (written on the "obi").
The japanese release date (written on the back of the box) is April,1st, 2000.
This cd is housed in a special thick carton box (similar to digipack editions) with a special storage for the booklet. The catalogue number is similar to other 90's "Epic" releases, but with adifferent letter (ESDA instead of ESCA) to distinguish the different version of this cd easily. I've never had a Superaudio cd player, so I couldn't make a test to hear the higher quality of mastering.
The cd price was higher, at the time, than a regular "Thriller" cd (something like 40 euros nowadays) : this is another reason why, apart its rarity, today this cd is often sold at high prices (from 150 to 250 euros).
