Here it is a newcomer this week!

It's another "In the closet" cd single, this time coming from Australia, and it's a gold-stamped promotional copy!

The cd is housed in a cardboard sleeve, and it contains 8 tracks - truly an amazing tracklist for a cd single.

Aussie market got a second release for "In the closet" - with brown stripes sleeve, and if you want more details you can see it in the Showroom blog - but I'm still looking for the promo version. Sooooooo.....

OFF THE WALL

BRAZIL E.P. 4 TRACKS 7'' SINGLE

This week the Showroom spotlight is on a particular E.P. single (7'' format) released in Brazil to promote the "Off the wall" album. In late 70's E.P. records were common both in South America and in Asia (we've had several releases for the Jackson 5 in Japan and Malaysia, for example). Epic Brazil, with a bounch of Jackson 5 releases, and a couple from the Jacksons offered some kind of unique releases, and the "Off the wall" E.P. you see in the pictures, remains the only one strictly dedicated to one of Michael's solo albums. This E.P. contains 4 tracks, "Don't stop til you get enough" and "Shes' out of my life" on side A, backed with 2 other classics from the album, "Off the wall" and "Rock with you".

This is a never-seen-before cd for my eyes:it's a dutch only compilation release, with a wonderful black&white artwork picture sleeve. It contains 14 tracks, and it's officially licensed by Motown and released by Universal.

PART 2:RELEASES FROM "BAD"

 

 

A BRIEF HISTORY FROM WIKIPEDIA:

The original CD single (sometimes mini CD single or 3-inch CD or CD3 in the US) is a music single released on a mini Compact Disc that measures 8 cm (3.1 in) in diameter, rather than the standard 12 cm (4.7 in). They are manufactured using the same methods as standard full-size CDs, and can be played in most standard audio CD players and CD-ROM disc drives.

[...] Capable of holding up to 20 minutes of music, most mini CD singles contain at least two tracks, often consisting of a single edit and an instrumental version in the same way as 7-inch vinyl singles.

KING OF POP:

Among the 80's, this format became very popular. From the album "BAD", 2 singles had a 5'' cardboard release with a 3inch cd mounted in a special adaptor ("Man in nthe mirror" and "Dirty Diana"), while "Smooth criminal", "Leave me alone" and "Liberian girl" have been released with a small gatefold picture sleeve - again - housed in a special blistered pack with the CBS brand. 

The "BAD" singles on mini cd format are generally easier to find than the Dangerous one, but they remains still a kind of a wonderful collectable release.

Also, don't forget that the one you see in the pictures, are NOT the only 3inches releases from that period.

Another double welcome this week! This time, the newcomers travelled from South Africa to join their brothers and sisters of this collection. We're talking about a copy of "Off the wall" and one of the album "Bad", both RSA releases, and both with slightly different artworks:Off the wall has a big brown stripe on the top with title and catalogue number, Bad a bigger Michael's iconic image with the title moved on top.

Both cassettes are not easy to find nowadays.
