HUMAN NATURE 

AN UNRELEASED SINGLE : 
"BUTTERFLIES"

Butterflies was planeed as a third single release from the album "Invincible". Then something went wrong, and we all know the sad story. The album's promotion was met with trouble due to internal conflicts going on between Sony Music Entertainment and Jackson due to issues with his ownership with the company and the contract to this deal with Sony that was originally signed back in 1991. Not wanting to sign away his ownership in Sony Music Entertainment, Michael elected to leave the company shortly after the album's release.After the announcement, Sony halted promotion on the album, cancelling single releases, including a 9/11 charity single ("What more can I give?") that was intended to be released before Invincible.
After "You rock my world" and "Cry", at least 4 singles should have been released, following the promotion plans : "Butterflies", "Unbreakable", "Break of dawn" and "Whatever happens". Unfortunately, this didn't happen. Neverthless, "Butterflies" was only a radio single - peaking at a respectable #14 on Billboard Hot 100 only with radio airplay - and the track was released only on promo cd and on 2 different 12'' given to U.S. radio stations . The cd should include 4 tracks, including the "Master mix feat.Eve" and the "Acappella" version.

Among the rarest american promo cds released to promote the album "Bad", there's this copy of "The way you make me feel". It contains the remixes we can easily find on almost all the 12'' releases. Why did I choose THIS cd among the others? Simply because we don't have an european release for this single, neither a japanese one (except for the 3'' single which does not contains the remixes) and this is the ONLY release to have the "The way you make me feel" remixes on cd, in digital quality.
We recently, have had the opportunity to get the "Dance extended remix" remastered on some "King of Pop" releases, but the "Dub version" as well as the "Acappella" one still remains a prerogative of this promotional cd single!

Not all the collectors will say "wooooow" when they see this record but...I can confirm you that is a rare rare press. It's a "Music & me" from Venezuela, released on Tamla Motown label.
Not only it's hard to find a copy, but it's even harder to find it in conditions like the one you see in the pictures:it still has its original shrinkwrap! That's why deserves the palce of "Record of the week".

A new "Off the wall" copy joins today the Showroom. It's a rare press from Zimbabwe (ex-Rhodesia), with particular white labels design,  and a sleeve that looks similar to the South African one, with just some slight differences. You can watch in the "Lp albums" page, here, the few details changed between one and the other.

With its unique picture sleeve and the wonderful "blood-splattered" picture cd, this promo cardsleeve has become highly sought-after among MJ collectors.
Released in 1997 in South Africa ONLY, in conjuction with the "Blood on the dancefloor" album release and for a contemporary promotion of the previous 2-discs set "HIStory", it contains 3 megamixes (MJ Megamix 4'58'' - MJ Megaremix 10'33" - MJ Urban megamix 4'58'') produced by Tony Moran, which make of this cd the exact compendium of several promotional EU/USA releases (Megamix/Megaremix EU cd for example, or the american "The Megamixes" promo).

Today there's not a record in this space, but a wonderful set of mini cosbaby; Cosbaby are little figures representing celebrities with a baby face. Each cosbaby stands 3 inches/7 cm tall. Michael Jackson got 8 different versions, each with its unique design from some of his music videos and live performances.

This set is made of 9 figures,
6 designs + 1 secret version + 2 extra version:

- Thriller ( regular version)
- Thriller ( werewolf version)
- Plus one SECRET version (Thriller Yellow eye)

SECRET Cosbaby and SPECIAL cosbaby are the rarest among the whole lot. The special one (with the iconic Thriller college jacket) comes with a different red box.
What you can see in this picture is the VERY FIRST cosbaby edition, with a Moonwalker-designed little box and a display box for shops!
Lately, the whole cosbaby set have been reissued with a black box package including MJ classic logo.

The record chosen this week is 1 of the 2 promotional cds released for the track "Childhood" in 1995, launched with "Scream" at the same time as 1st single for the album "HIStory past present and future Book I". Both promotional cds are now rare and very hard to find. Here in the picture you can see the "Free willy 2" picture cardsleeve edition. Childhood is, infact, the theme from the "Free Willy 2" movie, with its soundtrack released by MJJ label.

I love this song, because it's the most intimate, the most personal ever written by Michael. "Childhood" is a sort of "big picture" of Michael's essence; just read these lines:

They view it as such strange eccentricities...

Like a child, but pardon me...
