A new item is today in the Showroom. It's a rare colombian press of "The Essential 3.0", in a thciker digipack than the U.S. version, released by Sony Colombia. I didn't knew about this release until I saw it. The catalogue number is the same of the U.S. press.

BLAST FROM THE PAST : 
BILLIE JEAN USA VHS PROMO - BASF 

A few weeks ago, someone asked me some infos about this promotional vhs.
Released in 1983 by Basf, it contains the "Billie Jean" video repeated 5 times, in a shortened version of 3 minutes for each video. It was distributed to the media shops at the time to advert the new Basf videocassette players.
I saw this vhs only one time around, and it was when I bought it, so I guess it deserves its place among the rarest items in the Showroom.

The record chosen this week is a rare korean press of the "HIStory Greatest Hits vol.1" collection released in 2001. This press have a different catalogue number from the other version and is nowadays very hard to find, especially with its silver sticker written in korean language. Beware, "rare" not means necessarily "expensive"; with a little bit of luck, if you still don't have it, you can find it for a reasonable price.

This rare collectors souvenir set of 5 x Michael Jackson SQUARE picture disc was released in 1988 in the UK, to celebrate and promote the BAD tour. Each single includes its lyric/picture booklet. The set is presented in a custom title-printed fold-out PVC display wallet, with the B-sides of the discs featuring different images of Michael, whilst the A-sides create a 14" x 21" iconic image of the superstar.

A MOTOWN RARE FIND PART II :

Following the last week post with the portuguese "Maria" single, here it is another unique single, this time released in Mexico. This is a 4 tracks E.P. including "You've got a friend" and "Ain't no sunshine" on the A-Side, and once again "Got to be there" is placed on the flip-side with "Wings of my love".
The picture sleeve is similar to another spanish release (Rockin'Robin), but with several variants, while the greenish labels are a classic clue to identify a Motown mexican single.

This wonderful boxset, released in 2009 worldwide, was a limited "mail-order" only release in Japan. I remember it was difficult to get at the time, because only few sellers had it and for such an high price. Each disc comes in a standard jewel case with picture sleeve & back tracklisting insert, all housed in a glossy card clamshell style picture box complete with a 168 page lyric booklet & a separate information booklet featuring details on each album. That's why the box is thicker than the european release, which includes the cd housed in cardsleeves.

We all know, the J5 and Michael Jackson's singles discography is a jungle of releases. We have records from all over the world, often with different picture sleeves from each country. Probably, it's almost impossible to have them all. But it's always a pleasure to show the rarities I've got through these years. Here it is one : a portuguese ONLY single release, with an unique picture sleeve, with the classic A-side "Got to be there" moved on the flip side and "Maria (You were the only one) as a lead song of the single.
This record is difficult to find in good conditions...often spanish and portuguese records have writings on label and/or on sleeve. When I found this, I was so happy to see that it has none of them, is totally clean and with no damages!
